Iron deficiency is a common cause of anaemia.
Iron Infusion
An iron infusion is used for the treatment of patients with iron deficiency when oral iron preparations are ineffective or cannot be used. The aim of the therapy is to replenish body iron stores and to remedy anaemia; a reduced level of haemoglobin due to iron deficiency.
Prior to accessing the WiSE Specialist Emergency Clinic, Macquarie Park for an iron infusion, you must obtain a valid GP or Specialist referral and prescription. Before administration, your GP or Specialist doctor will perform a blood test to calculate the dose of iron infusion you require. Please bring both your referral, script and blood results with you.
If you are experiencing new symptoms of iron deficiency and would like immediate assessment, you may choose to access the WiSE Specialist Emergency Clinic to see a Specialist Emergency Physician.
The need for an iron infusion will be determined following assessment and investigation performed by the Specialist Emergency Physician.
There is no particular preparation needed for the iron infusion. It is helpful if you have had plenty of fluids to drink so finding a vein for the infusion can be easier. You will be able to drive home after the iron infusion.
The infusion usually takes 20 minutes once the IV drip infusion is connected.
Please allow up to 1 hour for assessment, administration and monitoring.
If you bring your own Iron medication, then the fee is $215*. We have Iron onsite that we can supply and that costs $70. While at WiSE, Emergency specialist consultation and assessment, diagnostic imaging, blood tests and observation will be covered by Medicare.

Zoledronic Acid infusion
Zoledronic acid infusion is a medical treatment used to treat a variety of bone disorders, including osteoporosis, bone metastases from certain types of cancer, and Paget's disease of bone.
It is a type of medication called a bisphosphonate that works by slowing down the breakdown of bone in the body.
During a zoledronic acid infusion, the medication is administered through an intravenous (IV) infusion into a vein in the arm. The infusion typically takes about 15-30 minutes to complete. The medication then circulates through the bloodstream, where it binds to the surface of bone and helps to slow down the process of bone breakdown.
It is important to discuss the risks and benefits of zoledronic acid infusion with your healthcare provider, and to make an informed decision about whether the treatment is right for you. You will be closely monitored during and after your infusion by our experienced team of Emergency Specialist Doctors and Emergency Nurses.
These infusions require an appointment, dispensed medication and referral. Please allow for approximately 1 hour for this infusion.
Immunoglobulins infusions
Immunoglobulin infusions, also known as intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) therapy, are a medical treatment that involves giving a patient a concentrated solution of immunoglobulins through an intravenous (IV) line.
IVIG therapy is used to treat a variety of medical conditions, including primary immunodeficiency disorders, autoimmune diseases, and some neurological disorders. It can help boost a patient's immune system and reduce inflammation.
IVIG therapy is usually given in a hospital or clinic setting, and it may require multiple infusions over a period of several weeks or months, depending on the patient's condition. The treatment is generally safe, but like any medical procedure, there can be some risks and potential side effects. It is important to discuss the risks and benefits of IVIG therapy with a healthcare provider before undergoing treatment.
These infusions require an appointment, dispensed medication and referral. Please allow for approximately 2 hours for this infusion.
